The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State is enmeshed in shambles following the Ward Congress which was reportedly held in the state.

The disorder had led to the suspension of the state working and caretaker committee led by Dr Ita Udosen.

Stakeholders of the party in a press conference on Tuesday stated that following the refusal by the party chairman to follow due process in the conduct of Ward Congress, and by ‘submitting’ himself and his entire excutive members for ‘manipulation’, in the name of conducting the election, they were being suspended indefinably.

Leading the stakeholders for the press interaction was the former military governor of Rivers and Ondo States, HE Samuel Ewang; former Spokespeople of the House of Representatives, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh and former Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Rt. Hon. Victor Antai.

Others were Dr. Morris Ebong, Elder Effiong Etuk, Rt. Hon. Emaeyak Ukpong, Barr Chris Okorie, Obonganwan Jeraldine Etuk, Bishop Ekpe James, Hon. John Harry, Hon. Patty Ettete Ineme, Akpabio Udo Ukpa, Uduak Udoh among others.

The stakeholders stated that they had the endorsement of all stakeholders of the party across the state, including Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma and Senator Ita Solomon Enang.

They insisted that no Ward Congress took place in the state and that by failing to discharge the duties to which they were appointed, and by abusing the Constitutional provisions for the election, it became expedient that they be suspended.

Giving insight into the provisions of the party’s Constitution on the merit of their stance, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh made reference to various sections of the Constitution, saying only members of the state executive committee had the powers to suspend erring members.

Eyiboh went further to say that following the provisions of the party’s Constitution, SEC members were made up of serving or former governors, serving or former senators and members of the house of representatives, Chapter and Ward Chairmen.

Eyiboh who said Ward Chairmen were owners of the party, faulted “the purported suspension of 17 chapter chairmen by the ‘former chairman’, Dr Ita Udosen”, describing the action as “a theatre of the absurd.”

He stated that actions taken by the state executive committee as presently constituted, was valid because their membership was more than 2/3rd majority of the total number.

Speaking on behalf of the 21 Chapter Secretaries led by Mr Paul Ibara, Chapter Secretary of Essien Udim LGA insisted that Dr. Ita Udosen, the “suspended” caretaker committee chairman was doing the bidding of Senator Udoedehe, whom he said was bent on destroying the party.

Paul Ibara announced that the 21 chapter secretaries have totally aligned with the position by the 19 chapter chairmen, issued on Saturday, July 31 after the aborted Ward Congress.

They also passed a vote of no confidence on both the state caretaker chairman, Dr Ita Udosen, together with all members of SWC, and the National Secretary of the party, Senator John James Akpan Udoedehe.

They called on the national leadership of the party to conduct a proper Ward Congress in the state in order to save the party from the current situation.

Those suspended include: Dr. Ita Udosen, State Chairman; Uwemedimoh Essien; Deputy State Chairman; Austin Ekanem; Secretary; Okon Owoefiok, Treasurer; Nkereuwem Enyongekere, Publicity Secretary; Louis Udoh, State Youth Leader; and Rt Hon. Aboh Uduyok, Organising Secretary.

Others are Dr Inyang Abia, Eket Sen. District Chairman; Aniefiok Jackson, Uyo Sen. District Chairman; Cosmas Ibanga, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Chairman; Uwem Ikamaenyin, Physically Challenged Leader; Magdalene Akpabio, Women Leader; and Imoh Effiong Ukpe, Financial Secretary.

Still on the list are Rosemary Harry, State Auditor; Chief Sunny Ibanga; Welfare Secretary; and Barr Udonsek, Legal Adviser.

The new “acting caretaker committee” has Pastor Edidiong Idio as Acting State Chairman, Nkereuwem Okpok as Acting Deputy Chairman, and Hon Ubong Ekpo as Acting Secretary, among others.
