The Head of Akwa Ibom State Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, says more Teachers should be deployed to Schools in the rural areas to meet the required teachers- students ratio.
He said this at the State Secondary Education Board while interacting with staff during the on going familiarisation tour to MDAs.
Elder Effiong Essien observed that there is high concentration of teachers Within the urban schools while schools outside the urban centres lack teachers even in core subjects like Mathematics, English Language etc.
He said lack of teachers in this core subjects deprives the students the opportunity of competing with their counterparts and having the required subjects at qualifying examinations. He adds that subjects like Ibibio,Home Economics, physical and Health Education are also very important subjects that should be thought in schools to equip the students with basic skills. On the challenges raised, the Head of Civil Service assured that the issues would be looked into.
The offices visited were state Secondary Education Board, Civil service Commission, Ministry of Education, Internal Revenue Service and Ministry of health, all located within the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat.
At all the Offices visited the Head of Service, Elder Effiong Essien, Thanked Them for the collective effort at working towards the realization of Governor Udom’s completion agenda and for the warm reception.
Inadequate office space, working tools,funding,utility vehicles, release of outstanding promotions and maintenance of existing structures were some of the challenging issues raised. The Permanent Secretaries and other speakers also gave their progress reports and thanked the Head of Civil Service for visiting them. They pledged their continued support to the completion agenda of the present government.
