A civil rights group from Oron Nation, Òrò Youth Movement, OYOM, has called on the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel to immediately dissolve the Ibaka Deep Seaport Implementation Committee.

OYOM says the dissolution of the committee headed by Barr Mfon Usoro has become inevitable, following the recent confession by the state chief executive that he was not contemplating the construction of a Dugout Port which is in contradiction to the OBC which Mfon Usoro led Committee took six years to get approved.

In an exclusive press statement accessed by Newstrack on Sunday, OYOM stated that there was no point for the expansion of the Seaport Implementation Committee to include four additional persons from Òròn.

The statement endorsed by the President, Comrade Victor Mkpofor posited that addition of four Oro people would be akin to putting new wine into an old bottle.

Mkpofor queried the activities of the Mfon Usoro led Committee, accusing them of being responsible for all the misfortunes the project has suffered these past six years.

“You cannot put new wine into a bottle containing rotten wine. There would be no difference. All you have to do is pour the rotten wine and get the bottle treated with disinfectant before putting new wine into it.

“Mrs Mfon Usoro and her committee has wrecked disaster on this state. They misled the Akwa Ibom State Government and delayed our collective progress.

“We cannot pretend to accept this anomaly simply because of the calibre of people involved. They have to be fired immediately”, the statement said.

According to him, “It has become obvious that the Mfon Usoro Committee has failed the state. Therefore, if the committee must be re-inaugurated, it must be headed by an Òrò person, preferably Engr Nkpubre, the Chairman of Oro Nation Technical Committee on Ibaka Deep Seaport.”

While reiterating its call on the Governor to take the brave action of abolishing the 2014 OBC which came with his now condemned concept of a Dugout Port, OYOM enjoined Governor Udom Emmanuel to return the Seaport to the preferred location in Ibaka Bay, in line with the Initial Due Diligence Studies and Outline Business Case of April 2013.
