President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to all sections of Nigerian citizens to join hands with leaders across the nation to entrench lasting peace in the country.
He says the weeks and days of peaceful matches and chants across the roads and streets of major cities by the youths, which turned violent, leading to wanton destruction of life and property, are ended.
The president who spoke during an inter-party stakeholders’ meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital, sued for peace among all categories of citizens in the country.
President Buhari who was represented in the meeting by his senior special assistant on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang said it was time for all manner of persons to sit back and assess the gains of the #EndDARS protest so as to jointly proffer solutions to the concerns raised.
“We are here to work with the state government and all authorities of government to resolve the issue and restore peace to Akwa Ibom State, other states of the Niger-Delta and every part of the country.”
Senator Ita Enang who thanked Akwa Ibom youths for accepting to meet government at the negotiation table, also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for causing a gradual and final return of peace throughout the states of the federation, especially in undertaking measures to address the 5-point concerns of protesters.
Ita Enang applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for promptly declaring curfew in the state, which helped to contain violent destruction and looting of public and private properties in the state.
While sympathizing with families of those who lost their loved ones, the state government and private individuals over the destruction and looting of their valuables, Ita Enang who condemned such act of violence and criminality, however apologized to Nigerian youths for whatever may have been the pitfalls of government.
In his address, the minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio called on the Niger-Delta youths to support the Federal Government and the leadership of their states so they can benefit from the dividends democracy.
Senator Akpabio who listed out the various activities and programmes of President Muhammadu Buhari, in directly affecting youth progress, encouraged all leaders of the state and the region to maintain peace and unity.
Meanwhile, the Acting Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Akwa Ibom State, Dr Ita Udosen called on youths of the state to support the president because of his outstanding youth friendly gestures as found in the social investment programmes.
Ita Udosen expressed disapproval over the destruction of the state APC secretariat by hoodlums who hijacked the peaceful protest in Uyo
The event witnessed visitations to public and private properties, including the APC state secretariat, which have been destroyed or looted.
