A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, chief Windy Isong has congratulated both Governor Udom Emmanuel and the Akwa Ibom 2019 APC governorship candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere over their election contests.
Windy Isong Isong, who was a strong supporter of Obong Nsima Ekere, spoke on the sidelines of the Supreme Court verdict on Wednesday, hailing Governor Udom Emmanuel on his victory.
Recall that Governor Emmanuel who contested his second term election on March 9, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was declared winner by the independent national electoral commission, INEC over his closest rival and candidate of the APC, Obong Nsima Ekere
Similarly, Udom’s reelection was affirmed and further upheld by both the Akwa Ibom Elections Petition Tribunal in Uyo and the Appellate Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State.
Windy Isong, Okete Okete Oro said the victories garnered by Governor Emmanuel in all the stages “indicated that he was destined to lead Akwa Ibom people at a time like this.”
The veteran media guru stated that Udom’s challenger, Obong Nsima Ekere also deserved kudos for his gallantry and resilience throughout the period.
His words, “The verdict given by the Supreme Court is in line with those of the Tribunal and the Appeal Court. The victories recorded reveal that right from time, he was destined by God to pilot the affairs of the state at this time.
“As you can see, the elections are over and 2023 is still very far. Now is time for governance. It is time the Governor must show leadership capacity. He can now engage stakeholders across the state so as to map out policies that shall ensure the development of the state. The Governor must close ranks beyond partylines to deliver on his mandate.”
Meanwhile, the Okete Okete appealed to the Governor to kill the sad story of retirees’ gratuities, saying it was painful for the needs of senior citizens to be neglected.
He pleaded with Governor Emmanuel to clear the baglocks of gratuities and pensions of retirees and next of kin from 2010 till date, while taking steps towards repairing the bad roads that are litterd across Oro Nation, especially the Oron Road that leads to the Beach.
However, Windy Isong who called for love, unity and peaceful coexistence among all Akwa Ibom people, also cautioned political players against division in the state.
