The Federal Social Housing project being executed by the government of the federation in conjunction with Novone Consult in Uyo, is steadily inching towards Completion, National Newstrack can authoritatively report.
In a visit to the project site by our Correspondent, the first phase of the housing estate, made up of about 30 units of three bedroom flats were at various levels of Completion.
Speaking with National Newstrack on the project, Chief Executive Officer of Novone Consult, Arch Ezekiel Nya-etok, expressed satisfaction with the rate of progress on the project, promising that the estate would be delivered in the next six months. He noted that it’s Completion and eventual commissioning by the Nigerian President would be a worthy way for the president to kick-start his re-election campaigns.
Nya-etok expressed joy at the attention the project has started enjoying and the beneficial collaborations with both the Federal government and the state government. He noted that the recent visit by the Minister of Work, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fasola, was a heart-warming one as the project was the only one located in the South South of the country.
“It was a thing of joy for the Minister to visit the site and make the type of heart-warming comments on the progress of the housing programme here. He was satisfied with what we are doing and has ordered the immediate provision of infrastructure for the estate. We are optimistic that we shall meet the six months Completion target for the president to come and commission this project, “ he told our Correspondent.
The Novone Consult boss urged Akwa Ibom people to stop by the project site and see things for themselves and take advantage of the current subsidised prices for the first phase, put at between N7m and N8.5m. He charged the Akwa Ibom populace not to allow outsiders take up the available houses as the estate is open to all Nigerians.
Nya-etok described the estate as a prime estate with proximity to the city centre, the Teaching Hospital and a proposed ring road.
In addition to the interest being showed by the Federal government, the state government has also been interested with the progress at the project site. The Commissioner for Housing, Mr Akan Okon last Friday paid a private visit to the site, promising to formally visit the location with the entire complement of the ministry for proper assessment of the estate. He expressed delight at the pace of work, saying that the last time he visited the site there was nothing on the ground.
Akan Okon who described Arch Ezekiel NyaEtok as his “friend and a man who has character and integrity “, maintained that he had once served with the Novone Consult boss in the steering committee that saw to the actualization of the Shelter Afrique Estate in Uyo, the Akws Ibom State capital.
The land for the project was donated by the Akwa Ibom state government, who is hoped would provide the needed access road to the estate.
