The battle for the 2019 governorship seat in Akwa Ibom State has accelerated as the entire youths of Oro Nation, numbering over 30 groups, have risen to receive and adopt the aspiration of Barr. Asuquo Okpo.

Led by the Supreme Youth Council of Oro Nation, the Nlap Isong Akpakip Oro; Oro Youth Movement and Oro International Youth Forum, the youths, who in their thousands, thronged the Oron Civil Centre, venue of the meeting, resolved that it was the right time Oro Nation was restored.

In his Speech, the President, Nlap Isong Akpakip Oro, Comrade, Victor Anwanakak noted that battle for the 2019 governorship race would be unshakable, stressing that as he rejected an offer of 50 million naira during the 2015 struggle, the youths, elders and all political stakeholders of Oro should be ready to reject inducement, division and deception so that the fight could be a success.

Victor Anwanakak maintained that whoever used NDDC projects to score cheap political goal should be overlooked as such projects was meant for everybody, saying any political party that would not give the governorship ticket to Oron man was not ready to win the 2019 governorship seat.

Aslo speaking, the leaders of Oro Youth Movement, Comrade Victor Mkpofor, that of Oro International Youth Forum, Comrade Sunday Odokwo and Barr. Mrs Mary Ewah who said the project was a done deal and that Okpo would redeem the image of Oro Nation which hitherto had been deceived, marginalized and emasculated maintained that the feat was a done deal that would surely manifest.

Earlier in his address, the President General of Oron Union, Dr Effiong Edunam expressed delight at the readiness of Oro youths whom he said was gathered at very short notice, saying the Oro Nation was denied their common patrimony and that they had gone on their knees to pray for their right time which was 2019.

The PG who spoke through the Lagos Branch President, Chief Offong Ntofon stated that Oro was ready to take the bull by the horns in the struggle to produce a Governor of Oro extraction in 2019 and charged the youths to be ready to go to the field as Barr Okpo was himself, ready to take the people to the promised land.

Meanwhile, a member of the Akwa Ibom State caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elder Enefiok Ekefre recalled that Ibibio with 14 local government areas and Annang with eight local government areas have both democratically governed Akwa Ibom State eight years each and that Oro Nation with five local government areas, being in possession of nine out of 11 oil wells in the state, had all that was needed to assume the leadership of the state as Governor.

Ekefre wondered whether the Nigerian state was being sensitive to agitations of the oil reach area which owns the resources with which the state and nation was being run, reasoning that perhaps Akwa Ibom State was waiting for a revolution by the Oron people before they are being recognized.

He told the gathering that Oro Nation must be given a chance to test power for comparative purposes, if not for anything, adding that it is only Oron who can be Governor to make an Uyo man a deputy Governor.

In his remarks, the 2019 governorship hopeful, Barr. Asuquo Okpo told the Oro youths that it was time for all of them to go to the streets and tell their story of total neglect and their readiness to possess their possession.

Okpo, an Efiat born, from Mbo Local Government Area of the State, who recalled that the first school in the area was found in Oro and that education was the first qualification for such post, charged the youths to get ready as it was the right time for the struggle.

Highpoints of the event was the symbolic prayers offered by representatives of the youth groups on Barr. Asuquo Okpo.
