Enthusiastic Response Greets ALERT NIGERIA Entrepreneurial Essay Competition

The first batch of essay competitions organized by ALERT Nigeria for students of tertiary institutions in Akwa Ibom state will come to a close on November 21, 2017, with the closure of the entry portals. The competition is organized to select the first winners of the organisations young persons with demonstrable entrepreneurial qualities as community development actors in their communities of origin.
The programme known as Iboro Otu Leadership and Entrepreneurship Discourse was formally launched on October 4, 2017.

In a chat with Weekly Insight, one of the officials of the organization, Mr. Edjo Okonubin, said that the reception for the essay competition has been very enthusiastic. He said that entries came from over eight tertiary institutions within the state and described the first batch of the programme as very successful and rewarding.

He stated that the Akwa Ibom state University has established a Center for Entrepreneurship studies, modeled after the Iboro Otu Leadership and Entrepreneurship Discourse, adding that ALERT Nigeria was currently discussing with both Akwa Ibom state University and the University of Uyo to establish an Innovation Hub for the training of young entrepreneurs in Akwa Ibom state.

On the entries received for the essay competition, Mr. Okonubin stated that assessment of already received essays would commence on November 20 and the full assessment would finish on November 27, 2017. Training for winners is expected to take off on December 16 and continues till January 2018.

He noted that projects selected during the assessment stage would commence in the selected communities in January.
Mr. Okonubin praised the initiative of Mr. Iboro Otu, the Director of ALERT Nigeria, saying that the project was the directors way of helping to build the next generation of enterprise-minded young people in Akwa Ibom state, which tallies with his desire to see a new generation of youths eager to foray into innovations, leadership excellence and entrepreneurship skills.

He urged those who could not make it this time to try their hands on the next batch of competition which will commence from January 2018.
