A humanitarian foundation, Prince Archibong Life Foundation has donated food items to internally displaced persons of Essien Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom State.
The Foundation is reputed for charity and humanitarian services, especially for the under privileged.
Presenting the items at the Catholic Cathedral, Ifuho in Ikot Ekpene LGA, the Director-General of the Foundation, Prince Mendy Archibong said his gesture was a response to his undying impulse and the burning desire to have compassion on people faced with dangerous challenges of life.
He said victims of displacement from the recent security deficits of the area were going through severe hardship and were appealing to all persons of conscience who should help sustain them in the time being.
Mendy Archibong who donated bags of rice and cartons of noodles to them, believed his gesture would assist the government to give adequate care to the displaced persons.
His words, “We came here to identify and sympathize with you all. We understand that this is a trying period for you. By God’s grace, soon, you all should return back home.
“This gesture is as the result of my passion and love for humanity. There is no politics attached. I’ve heard what the Governor and his dear wife have done. I pray God should continue to bless them. With this, I’m supporting what they have done.
“I thank God for saving your lives. I equally appreciate those that have joined hands with government to assist you here. Your council chairman is a hard-working man. He is working very hard with the governor to ensure that peace returns so that you can all return to your various homes”, he said.
Receiving the items, Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Area, Mr Anthony Luke thanked the foundation for remembering the people.
He explained that the displaced persons have been living on the support of government, charity organisations and individuals, since they became displaced.
Mr Luke listed the various times Essien Udim people have ‘drank from the fountain of love’ proceeding from Prince Archibong Life Foundation to include donations of educational materials to students, food items and wrappers to widows.
He said, “A true friend and brother is known during times of trouble. By the consistent act of Prince Archibong’s benevolence, he has proven that although he is from Obot Akara by birth, he is Essien Udim son.
“I also have to thank members of his foundation. They are a very formidable and result oriented team. Prince Archibong has been selfless in his milk of kindness. Others should imitate him. May God bless him”.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Obot Akara Local Government Area, Lady Agnes Udoenwenwen appreciated the foundation for its gesture and assured the people that as a peace-loving leader, Governor Emmanuel would do well to restore peace in no distant time.
Meanwhile, the Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Esse Umoh thanked the foundation for its consistency in caring for the needy.
Umoh who thanked the state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel and wife Martha for donating to the displaced persons, called on other public spirited groups and individuals to also key in to the gesture and provide for the IDPs.
He however have the assurance that he would use his office to pursue legislative backings to efforts of security operatives towards restoring normalcy in the area.
