Convener of the New Nigeria Group, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa has raised hope that he can ‘substantially’ fix multiples of Nigeria’s challenges within 100 days of his presidency.
He said lack of ideas by those currently presiding over the country is the reason there are myriads of problems confronting the nation.
Dr Sam Ohuabunwa is the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria; President of the Association of Corporate Governance Professionals of Nigeria; and Chairman of the organized private sector.
Ohuabunwa is also the Past Chairman, Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA); Past Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN); and one time National President of the Nigerian American Chambers of Commerce (NACC).
The Officer of the order of the Federal Republic (OFR) was speaking on Saturday during the official inauguration of The New Nigeria Group at Watbridge Hotels and Suits, Uyo.
He noted that the four major issues contending with the nation’s progress were poverty, corruption, injustice and insecurity.
He insisted that the present government was not sincere about fighting insecurity because it cannot deny being equipped with improved technology with which Boko Haram and other insurgent groups could be decimated.
The Member of the Order of Niger (MON) added that a people who are cheated cannot be blackmailed with accusations of causing insurrection and violence.
He questioned the resource sharing formula of the Federal Government, reiterating that without true federalism and devolution of power, the country would never breathe.
The recipient of the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) Award explained that the New Nigeria Group has the “vision of making Nigeria become a first world nation, where all the citizens live in harmony and are treated equally to achieve peace and prosperity for all.”
He further stressed that the Group is propelled to “mobilizing like minded citizens to install enlightened, visionary and committed leadership that will motivate the country to optimize its human and material resources to attain global competitiveness.”
The Former Chairman of Nigeria Economic Summit Group disclosed that the New Nigeria Group which was a political movement has the Core Values and Guiding Philosophy of “knowledge, industry, integrity, patriotism, justice, freedom/liberty and godliness.”
The Knight of Saint Christopher (KSC) observed that as a thoroughbred professional who has served in numerous public offices with clean records, God has blessed him with the three C’s of a world class leader.
According to him, his numerous duty posts have made it possible for people to believe in his competence, character and courage.
Performing the inauguration, the Convener charged state executives of the Group to work tirelessly in mobilizing men of proven integrity to afford them the opportunity of fulfilling their core objectives.
In his acceptance speech, the State Chairman of the Group, Rev. (Engr) J. B Effiong expressed appreciation to God and to the Convener for finding him worthy to lead the team.
Rev. Effiong however promised to work hard and commit his resources in order to actualize the Group’s mission.
Other state officials include: Dr Etido Ibekwe, Vice Chairman; and Eld. (Pharm.) Edet Eniang, Secretary. Others are Mr Tony Okpon, Uyo Senatorial District Coordinator; Chief Atako Okporo, Eket Senatorial District Coordinator; and Pharm. Isong Isang, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Coordinator.
