The highest Royal Authority in Ibibio land, Ifim Ibom Ibibio has mourned what it calls “multiple falls of Iroko Trees” in Akwa Ibom State.
In a condolence message signed by Oku Ibom Ibibio & President General of Ifim Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr) Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, the throne grieves over the loss of great sons and patriots of the state “whose lives”, it says, “greatly impacted on our State and Nation, nay the world at large.”
The message, dated Friday, January 22 and addressed to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, regretted the deaths of the former military governor, His Excellency, Otuekong (Air Commodore) Idongesit Nkanga (Rtd.) and the former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Nsikak Abasi Eduok.
The message also expressed deep melancholy over the transitions of the Immediate past Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Arc Ime Ekpo and the State Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Udo Ekpenyong who all “passed away within a short stretch of time.”
The message reads in parts, “On behalf of Ifim Ibom Ibibio and my family, I commiserate with you, your family, the Government and entire people of Akwa Ibom State on this sad episode.
“Never at any time have we witnessed the passages of patriots and Elder Statesmen like this, which has thrown the entire Akwa Ibom State into deep mourning.
“However, as Christians, we must take solace in the reality of the fact that death is a transitory experience for all mortals, as we all will meet again during the resurrection. The Holy Scriptures in Daniel 12:2 states that, “Many who sleep in the dust of the ground will wake up into everlasting life.”
“Ifim Ibom Ibibio prays to the Almighty God to grant you, the families of the departed and the entire people of Akwa Ibom State, the fortitude to bear these irreparable losses. May their souls rest in peace, Amen.”
