Immortalising Past Leaders: Gov Emmanuel Says His Government Has Done Well

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has stated that his administration should be encouraged for immortalising some of the past governors of the state, adding that so many of our past leaders would have been immortalised if previous administrations had started the process.

Governor Emmanuel, who made the appeal during a media parley with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State, was reacting to a question on whether his administration was planning to immortalise the former governor of the Old Cross River State, late Clement Isong.

Responding, the governor said that his administration should rather be commended for starting the initiative with the naming of the airport and stadium after Obong Victor Attah and Chief Godswill Akpabio, respectively, who are both former governors of the state.

“Talking about how we can immortalize more people like Clement Isong, I think we are coming up. We have an administration that has even started somewhere. These things we not there. It is this administration that named the stadium, it is this administration that the named the airport.

“I think if we started this way, in 34 years we would have recognised all our past leaders so why not even give credit that we have started something. This administration cannot do all alone. So give us credit for that. Don’t believe that we must name everything one day. No, not all, but we must start somewhere. We are beginning to recognise our leaders and we should be encouraged on that”, the governor said.
