The Forum of Eket Youths for good governance has petitioned Governor Udom Emmanuel to ensure that transparency is obtained in the P. D. P primary in Eket ahead of the November 11, 2017 Local Government election.
In a petition made available to the press and signed by Akpe Sampson Akpe, President, Sylvester Ukpaukere, Secretary and Inam David, PRO, the group said the mistake of the past which plunged the party into crisis should be avoided in the forth- coming election.
“The rumor mill has it that the Governor has anointed a particular aspirant to be given the ticket to contest the council poll under the P. D. P against all democratic rules, we wish to appeal that the imposition of candidates should be a thing of the past”, the petition read.
“Every aspirant should be given a fair opportunity to measure his or her acceptability during the party primary.
Stakeholders should be advised to guide against factional interest during the exercise”, it went further to read.
The forum said any aspirant who emerges as the party’s flag bearer in a fairly contested and transparent exercise will reflect the wishes of the people and that the losers will be satisfied that they lost the contest gallantly thereby fostering unity ahead of 2019.
The group pledged total loyalty to the governor and reiterated its commitment to work towards the re-election of the governor for a second term, having commended him for the beautification of Eket urban project.
In a related development, the Chapter Chairman of the P. D. P in Eket, Obongiwaad Emman Mbong has called on aspirant to stop heating the polity through insinuations and sponsoring of petitions.
He made the call on Wednesday in a meeting he had with the Chairmanship aspirants at the party office in Eket and debunked the allegation that the Governor has an anointed candidate for the Chairmanship race in Eket
