Paramount Ruler of Mbo local government area of Akwa Ibom State, HRM Ogwong Okon Asuquo Abang has officially registered as full-time financial member of Obio Ifong Isong Òrò, formerly known as the Council of Òrò Traditional Rulers (COTR).
The monarch submitted himself for registration on Tuesday during a general meeting of the group at the Ahta Oro Conference Room of the Oron Civic Centre.
Okon Abang said he was there to counter all speculations on his ‘unstableness’, especially in joining ‘political’ monarchs of Oro Nation to fight noble courses that should promote royalty.
Flanked by 10 village heads from Mbo and Ebughu Clan Council, five village heads from the Ebughu-Okobo and members of Afaha Ebughu Development Union, the paramount ruler insisted that he was a true son of the soil whose background in traditional matters, customs and royalty cannot be shifted for any reason.
Okon Abang told the story of his life, his training on traditional matters, especially as a long time mentee of his predecessor, HRM Ahta Hon. Edet Okon Isemin, Ahta Oro VII.
He stated that his relationship with the departed monarch had long progressed to that of a father and son, and that he couldn’t have joined forces with any group of persons to endorse a document against the obsequies of his mentor.
He challenged anyone who has a copy of such a document to produce it, adding that legal actions cannot escape any person(s) suspected to have forged his signature.
Abang who paid his registration fees and all dues to Obio, stressed that he was in full support of the group’s activities and shall regularly attend all its meetings henceforth.
He appealed to Oro traditional rulers’ council to be sending circulars and agenda of meetings to the paramount rulers to furnish them with items for discussion at every meeting.
Speaking earlier at the gathering, the President-General of Afaha Ebughu Development Union, Elder Ita Onukak told the meeting that Afaha Ebughu, Mbo Clan Council and their brethren in Okobo LGA were there to present their Paramount Ruler to Obio.
Elder Ita Onukak maintained that Mbo and Ebughu had resurrected with Christ because their Judas Iscariot has committed suicide and can no more betray them.
He stated that since Jesus Christ resurrected completely and couldn’t be held back by betrayal, their Royal father was fully resurrected and prepared to provide service and leadership for Oron people, especially as a full time financial member of Obio Ifong Isong Òrò.
While reiterating that the entourage of the Royal Father was a testimony of his averment on the monarch’s unshaken resolve to diligently serve in Obio, Ita Onukak thanked the council for receiving him to the fold.
In his reaction, the Chairman, Obio Ifong Isong Òrò and Paramount Ruler elect of Urue Offong Oruko LGA, HRM Offong Effiong M. Unanaowo expressed delight in the noble action of Mbo people.
Offong Unanaowo who received the Mbo monarch with a hand of fellowship, described him as a symbol of light, having been firmly rooted in traditional matters.
He stated that his action is a discredit to whatever documents forged by any group of persons who are seeking chip popularity with their ignoble activities.
The meeting was attended by virtually all active members of Obio, including His Excellency Amb Etim Uye who is the Central Planning Committee Chairman for the obsequies of Ahta Oro VII; the Secretary of Obio, HH Offong Effiong Oquong, among others.
Meanwhile, the Obio Ifong Isong Òrò are seriously executing plans to give a befitting funeral rites to the departed Chief Monarch of Oro Nation, HRM Ahta (Hon.) Edet Okon Isemin, Ahta Oro VII.
