The bravery of Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State in appointing an illustrious son of Oro Nation to the post of a Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government has received a standing ovation from the Oro Think Tank Steering committee which comprises of the political and traditional personalities of the region.
In a crucial meeting convened and presided over by the Oro Think Tank Chairman, Dr. Monday E. Dickson in Uyo by 3pm Thursday, January 25, 2018, the stakeholders of Oro Nation rose to salute the commendable and uncommon courage of Governor Udom Emmanuel who took a bold step, in spite of all challenges, to entrust the exalted office into the hands of a competent Oro son.
The people who stood erect, as if observing a minute silence in respect of a departed soul, thanking Governor Emmanuel for his love, noted that the Governor had demonstrated love, political inclusion and fairness in even distribution of political offices in the appointment.
They thanked the Governor over what they described as historic in recent political situations in the state and prayed God’s wisdom, understanding and visionary leadership potentials on both the Governor and the new SSG, maintaining that more of such developments were being anticipated by the people of Oro Nation from the Udom Emmanuel led administration.
The meeting which anchored discussions on series of important issues bordering on the development of Oro Nation was attended by representatives of Oro Think Tank; Council of Oro Traditional Rulers, COTR; Oron Union and youth groups from Oro Nation with personalities across party lines, including the former SSG, Okokon Antigha, Bishop Etim Ante, all of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Others in attendance included: the Director of Airworthiness Standards, Engr Ita Awak; the Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission and Political Leader of APC in Oro Nation, Engr Benedict Ukpong and the former Nigerian Ambassador to Greece, His Excellency Dr Etim Uye.
It could be recalled that Oro Think Tank, had sent a message of felicitation to Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, saying he was a thoroughbred technocrat, who had traversed the world of academics with distinctive records of excellent performances.
The message which was signed by the Oro Think Tank Chairman, Dr Monday E. Dickson and the Secretary, Barr Omen Bassey, stated that with a Bachelors degree in Engineering Physics, Masters Degree in Physics, Masters Degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering (Microcomputer-based Instrumentation and Control Engineering) and a PhD in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (Computer-based Instrumentation and Control Engineering), Dr Ekuwem would do well in his duty post based on his wide range of academic accumulation.
The Think Tank stated that Emmanuel Ekuwem who hails from Ofi Uda in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State was a seasoned technocrat who is widely known for his dedicated spirit and diligence to any assigned duties.
The Oro Think Tank who congratulated Ekuwem for making it into the Akwa Ibom State executive council merely a year to the exit of Udom Emmanuel led administration, used the occasion to solicit more inclusion of the Oro race in the current government so as to balance the power structure that has excluded them for a long time.
