The Akwa Ibom State Branch of the Civil Liberties Organisation wishes Nigerian Workers a most rewarding Workers day 2018.
We are aware of the daunting challenges facing the Nigerian worker in the country today. But we are happy that you have shown enormous patriotism and steadfast love to our country. You have continued to forge ahead, irrespective of the several social, economic and political hardship roadblocks that have conspired to hamper your productivity level.
As we celebrate you today, we urge you to remain loyal to your cause as Workers and give your best to our fatherland.
In the same vein, we call governments at various levels to realize the prime position of Workers and strive to ensure that workers’ welfare remains a priority in government plans and policies.
We decry the plight of Nigerian workers, who have continued to hold the short end of the stick in national economic and social estimation.
Nigerian governments at various levels have continued to see even the payment of salaries as a burden, even as government has no problems funding over bloated political structures and unending profligacy.
We call on the Nigerian government to expedite action on the proposed minimum wage and ensure that it meets the needs for a more pragmatic redistribution of wealth in the country. Nigerian workers must earn a living wage and our country can afford it.
Once more we congratulate you and assure you all of our steady solidarity with you at all times.
