Senator Godswill Akpabio has given reasons why the people of Akwa Ibom State are in full support of Obong Nsima Ekere as the next governor of the State.

Speaking in Eket at a Solidarity Rally for President Muhammadu Buhari, the former governor of Akwa Ibom and Senate Minority Leader, who was recently welcomed into the All Progressives Congress (APC), told the mammoth crowd that the people were solidly behind Obong Ekere because he has the capacity to perform and improve the fortunes of the state.

He said: “Obong Nsima Ekere has shown capacity to perform and I believe in performance. He was part and parcel of the Uncommon Transformation that took place in Akwa Ibom State between 2007 and 2015. Because of that, I know that he is well schooled in the process of good governance. I am confident that he will bring the state back into the trajectory of progress and development. We all belong to the progressives’ camp and we want a quantum leap in Akwa Ibom State. We don’t want the state to be moving backwards. That is why we are supporting Ekere to be the next governor of Akwa Ibom State.”

But Senator Akpabio stressed that the comprehensive endorsement of Obong Ekere did not foreclose chances of a fair contest in the gubernatorial race in Akwa Ibom. In a direct appeal to the people, he said: “I want to plead with you to make sure that our party is richer. Even though Nsima Ekere will be the governor, others who wish to contest for governorship, should go and buy form. You are not going to be stopped from contesting, this is democracy!”
Also speaking at the Rally, the Leader of APC in the state, Atuekong Don Etiebet, who presented the nomination and expression of interest forms to Obong Ekere, said the people and the party were behind the NDDC Boss.

The Party Leader said: ““With the presentation of these forms, we are going to have a consensus candidate. Obong Nsima Ekere is our choice. He is accepted across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.”
